About Christ'l Sprengers

Christ’l Sprengers is a Belgian artist working in painting and sculpture. Her practice investigates how images emerge when narrative and context are deliberately removed.

Each work is preceded by a precise and reductive investigation into which visual elements carry meaning and are capable of activating a mental image. This reduction is a form of precision and decisiveness.

Her paintings are images that open up space. They are rendered with clarity and recognizability, without visual noise. By removing context and positioning the image autonomously — on an active white field — a direct presence emerges that does not settle into a single reading.

When the viewer slows down and looks at what is not there, an image opens up in the viewer’s mind. The work shifts from the canvas into consciousness and remains in motion there. Each viewer generates a different image; in this variability lies the strength of this research.

In this approach, Sprengers demonstrates conviction: she relies on what is minimally required to activate a maximum mental field. Her work introduces a new directness into the act of looking.

Her sculptures translate this approach into physical space, examining how positioning, scale, and isolation shape perception and activate mental image formation.

Sprengers lives and works in Belgium.
